We need a CAE Engineer to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of an adhesively bonded CFRP sandwich structure using ANSYS, focusing on structural behaviour and joint failure prediction.
Project Scope:
- Geometry & Structural Analysis: Review the existing full-scale structure and develop a scaled-down model of hollow cylindrical CFRP members with adhesively bonded joints.
- Material Definition: Define CFRP and adhesive material properties, including elastic, strength, and failure parameters.
- FEA Model Development: Develop the ANSYS model with appropriate element types, material orientations, meshing, loads, and boundary conditions.
- Adhesive & Failure Modelling: Implement Contact and Cohesive Zone Modelling (CZM) to simulate adhesive damage initiation, propagation, and progressive debonding.
- Mesh Convergence: Perform mesh convergence and numerical sensitivity studies to establish simulation reliability.
- Structural & Failure Analysis: Evaluate stress distribution, deformation, stiffness, load-bearing capacity, and potential failure mechanisms, particularly around bonded joints.
Expected Deliverables:
- ANSYS FEA model and simulation files.
- Material and contact definitions.
- Mesh convergence and sensitivity study.
- Structural stress and deformation results.
- Adhesive damage and failure analysis.
- Technical report documenting methodology, results, and conclusions.
Alternative modelling approaches and failure criteria may be proposed where technically appropriate.
Actual engineering work involved: Advanced Structural FEA of CFRP composite structures, adhesive joint modelling, Cohesive Zone Modelling (CZM), and progressive failure analysis using ANSYS.
