Mechanical Design Engineer with ~5 years of hands-on industrial experience in designing, developing, and deploying Special Purpose Machines (SPMs) for manufacturing and testing applications. 

Proven expertise in translating functional requirements into production-ready mechanical systems, covering leak testing machines, press and pin-pressing systems, laser marking setups, gauging, and inspection machines. Strong command over SolidWorks-based 3D modeling, detailed manufacturing drawings, GD&T, BOM creation, and DFM/DFA practices, with active involvement from concept to assembly support. Experienced in cross-functional coordination with purchase, assembly, maintenance, and controls teams to deliver cost-optimized, reliable, and serviceable machines.

My Skills

🔹 SPM Design & Development

  • Design & execution of 25+ custom-built SPMs including leak testing, pressing, laser marking, gauging, and inspection machines.
  • Concept-to-detail engineering: layout design, mechanism selection, motion sequencing, and machine architecture.
  • Preparation of Design Approval Packages (DAP) and technical discussions with internal teams and customers.
  • Engineering support during assembly, trials, debugging, and final commissioning.
  • Design standardization to improve repeatability, reduce lead time, and simplify maintenance.

🔹 Mechanical CAD, Drafting & Documentation

  • Advanced 3D modeling and assembly design using SolidWorks for machines, subassemblies, and components.
  • 2D manufacturing drawings for machined parts, sheet metal, weldments, and fixtures with GD&T application.
  • Creation of complete Bills of Materials (BOMs) with bought-out and fabricated part segregation.
  • Preparation of calculation sheets, technical manuals, and engineering documentation.
  • Experience supporting reverse engineering activities for part cost reduction and localization.

🔹 Pneumatics & Automation Interfaces

  • Integration of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, FRLs, sensors, and actuators.
  • Coordination with controls/PLC teams for sensor placement, actuation logic, and safety interlocks.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes: machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly.
  • Active support to purchase teams for vendor discussions, component selection, and cost optimization.
  • Design and implementation of operator safety guards and machine safety improvements.

🔹 Industrial Experience, Maintenance

  • Industrial exposure across automotive manufacturing, precision engineering, and consumer products.
  • Preventive maintenance standardization and DBMS setup for maintenance tracking and deployment.
  • Cost reduction initiatives through part redesign, standardization, and reverse engineering.
  • Experience in testing, reporting, and prototype support in R&D environments (Titan – Watch Division).
  • Strong inclination toward continuous improvement, reliability engineering, and practical machine design.
